How We Actually Handle Paediatric Consultations

Four principles that shape every consultation. This is what you'd expect from a dedicated men's clinic delivered online.

Child-Paced, Parent-Guided

Our doctors know toddlers don't sit still and teens don't always want to talk. The call moves at the child's pace parents lead the history, the child shows what they can, and no one is rushed. Quick consults for the confident kid, longer ones when needed. Typical consultation time: 5–15 minutes.

Safe Paediatric Prescribing

Weight-based dosing, age-appropriate formulations, and strict safety rules. Our doctors don't prescribe adult medications for children, don't prescribe controlled drugs remotely, and always explain side effects and when to stop. If antibiotics aren't needed, we'll say so overprescribing isn't safe care.

Honest About Remote Limits

Some things can't be diagnosed over video a proper ear exam, abdominal palpation, neurological assessment. If your child needs hands-on review, your doctor tells you clearly and refers you to the right place: local GP, out-of-hours service, or A&E. No guessing, no false reassurance.

Direct Lines to Irish Specialists

When your child needs more than primary care, your doctor arranges referrals to paediatric specialists, ENT, dermatology, developmental assessment, or HSE services like Primary Care Psychology. Digital referrals sent the same day no second GP visit required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you book. Can't find your answer? Give us a call.

01
From what age can my child use the Paediatric Consultation service?
Children from 12 months and older can be seen through our online service. For safety reasons, babies under 1 year old with a fever above 38°C must attend a GP surgery or A&E in person rather than a video consultation this is standard practice across Irish telemedicine. For newborn concerns, please contact your local GP or the HSE out-of-hours GP service.
02
Does my child need to be present during the consultation?
Yes. The child must be physically present with the parent or legal guardian during the video call. This is a legal requirement for remote paediatric care in Ireland it allows the doctor to visually assess breathing, skin colour, alertness and posture, which is essential for a safe clinical decision.
03
Can the doctor issue a sick cert for school or creche?
Yes. If appropriate, your doctor issues a digital medical certificate to justify absence from school or creche, or to confirm your child is fit to return. The cert is emailed the same day. Creches and primary schools in Ireland accept digital certs from IMC-registered doctors.
04
Can my child get a prescription during the consultation?
Yes where clinically appropriate, the doctor issues an electronic prescription sent directly to your chosen Irish pharmacy within minutes. Common paediatric prescriptions include antibiotics for confirmed bacterial infections, weight-based paediatric paracetamol/ibuprofen dosing, inhalers and antihistamines. Our doctors do not prescribe controlled substances, ADHD medications, or adult-strength medicines to children.
05
What conditions are NOT suitable for online paediatric consultation?
Online is not suitable for: babies under 1 year with fever over 38°C; suspected sepsis (non-blanching rash, mottled skin, lethargy, laboured breathing); seizures or loss of consciousness; severe dehydration; suspected fractures; severe injuries; or any condition requiring a hands-on physical examination such as abdominal palpation for suspected appendicitis. In these situations, attend A&E or call 112/999 immediately.
06
Can I discuss behavioural or developmental concerns?
Yes. Our doctors can discuss early concerns such as sleep difficulties, toileting issues, speech delay worries, attention or behavioural concerns, and refer your child to the appropriate assessment service whether that's the HSE's Primary Care Psychology service, a paediatric developmental specialist, or private assessment. We don't perform formal developmental assessments online but we guide you to the right next step.
07
Can I get vaccination advice for my child?
Yes. Our doctors advise on Ireland's HSE childhood immunisation schedule, catch-up vaccinations if your child has missed a dose, travel vaccinations, and answer questions about vaccine safety, side effects and timing. Note: the vaccines themselves are administered in person at your local GP, HSE clinic, or pharmacy we provide the clinical advice and point you to the right provider.
